November 7, 2022 Hello music lovers! Here’s a quick round-up of what’s gone on and what’s coming up at the club – including some early news of next year’s attractions. We start by looking back on October, when we welcomed the Dave Ferra & Katie Bradley Band to the club for the first time. It’s fair to say it was a great success. The band were every bit as excellent as we expected they would be. They delivered a great night of blues music and Dave and Katie work excellently together, sharing lead duties across the set. The combination of their contrasting but complementary talents kept the audience enthralled. We may well be seeing them again before too long! Now we turn to November. The acts over the last few months have seen an emphasis on the “Blues” side of the Rhythm & Blues equation. For this month, we will see a shift in emphasis towards “Rhythm”. The Martin Smith Band (and special guests) will be bringing us a night of blues, soul and jazz – much of it fused with Latin American rhythms. Martin recently formed the band Corazon to pay tribute to one of his heroes, Carlos Santana. Corazon were a hit at the club earlier this year and at several festivals across the summer. For this special evening, the the band will go “Beyond Corazon” to explore wider influences of Latin music on blues, rock and jazz. The usual band line-up will be enhanced with two very special guests: Cuban percussionist Chino Morgan (from Corazon) and saxophone dynamo Red Brooks. That will be on Friday November 18th. Tickets are just £7.50 and available (as ever) through: buytickets.at/surreyrhythmandbluesA need to re-arrange some nights this year means Martin and the band will be back next month to perform at the Rhythm and Blues Christmas Party (on Friday 16th December). For that evening expect a great mix of blues and soul classics to create a party vibe. Tickets for that event are now fully available from the above link. Looking further ahead, we are pleased to announce our 2023 schedule is taking shape. We can announce the following confirmed nights for early next year:January 20th: Robin Bibi BandFebruary 17th: Sin HouseMarch 17th: Blues Business… and there’s more to follow. We’ll let you know as and when tickets for those nights become available.
